My coaching approach

Tim Davies standing in his garden, smiling, dressed in a casual business shirt and trousers, with hands in pockets.

My coachees appreciate my fresh and objective perspective, and challenging questioning; always delivered with empathy, support, and a sense of humour!

I work on a trust-building basis; I believe in a reciprocally open and honest relationship, progressing steadily towards my coachees’ goals.

My style is empathetic but direct; I’m not afraid to take my coachees outside their comfort zone or ‘call them out’ if I believe this will help facilitate their mobility.

My approach is strengths-based; I prefer to help my coachees recognise and leverage their strengths to find their own solutions, rather than dwell on their problems.

Strengths-based coaching works well for those who have an open mindset, want to become more self-aware, and are ready to do more of what works (and less of what doesn’t). It works less well for those who are backwards-looking, seeking specific advice or solutions, or who are happy to stay inside their comfort zone.

With a business background in the media, publishing, PR, distribution, and agency sectors, I have a nuanced understanding of the dynamics – and sometimes tension – between the creative and the commercial. I’m interested in transition, innovation and technology, and I love working with start-ups and new business models.

I abide by the Global Code of Ethics for Coaches, Mentors, and Supervisors and I receive regular coaching supervision. To learn more about the importance for executive coaches of supervision, adherence to a code of practice, and client contracting, spare a few minutes to read my blog.
